RIRS

Stone removal using the RIRS method enables the doctor to thoroughly examine the kidneys and remove the stones for good – the procedure is performed with a holmium laser, which completely destroys even the hardest stones. The method is used for stones from 0.5 cm to 2.5 cm in diameter. During the procedure an endoscope is inserted through the ureter and penetrates to the kidney.

It is performed under a general anaesthesia and is supervised by medical specialists. Stone crushing is fully controlled by the urologist. Furthermore, the kidney is not punctured, and there is no intervention in the renal parenchyma. The procedure is predictable, safe and minimally invasive, thus the number of its advocates increases steadily.

Advantages

The greatest advantage of the RIRS method is its exceptional effectiveness. Due to the employment of the latest technologies,
the procedure is very efficient, low-invasive and safe.

Modern approach

The RIRS method uses the best technological solutions and the latest medical equipment.

Predictable and safe

The kidney does not have to be punctured, and there is no intervention in the renal parenchyma, thus making this procedure maximally safe.

Short rehabilitation time

The recovery after the RIRS procedure is very short – the patient returns to their normal activities in 1 to 2 days after treatment.

Indications

The RIRS procedure is recommended to patients suffering from urolithiasis, with stones less than 3 cm in diameter, located not only in the kidneys, but also in the ureter.

  • A good indicator that the kidney stone removal procedure is necessary is also a continuous pain felt during urination – RIRS provides a relief in daily functions and minimises a risk of comorbidities.
  • A procedure of this type is also recommended for people interested in a quick recovery.
  • It should be noted that RIRS enables bilateral treatment, which significantly contributes to a quick recovery.
Contraindications

The strict contraindications for the RIRS procedure include pregnancy and a septic condition caused by urine retention in the kidney’s pyelocalyceal system.

  • Because the RIRS procedure uses X-rays, pregnant women cannot undergo the RIRS procedure, since radiation can damage a foetus and disrupt its normal development. Furthermore, anaesthesia used during RIRS can also be harmful to the baby.
  • For laser removal of kidney stones a patient must be in generally good health and well-rested.
  • You should also be aware that this method cannot be used for kidney stones above 3 cm.
